The latest launcher update (v26.7.1) lets you point Miu's brain and her voice at your own providers — for much more powerful, more in-character conversations, and full voice support even without a powerful local GPU.
It's completely optional. The free, fully local AI and voice are still the default and aren't going anywhere.
🧠 Cloud AI — "Bring Your Own Key"
If you already pay for an AI subscription, you can route Miu's in-game LLM through your own provider.
What you can connect
OpenRouter — one key, hundreds of models (including uncensored ones). The recommended choice for Miu.
Ollama Cloud — hosted open models, no GPU needed.
LM Studio — run powerful models locally on your own machine, free.
Player2 — a free local AI app for games.
Any OpenAI-compatible endpoint — bring your own provider or home setup.
Heads up: OpenAI and Anthropic (Claude) are also supported, but their content filters will refuse Miu's adult dialogue — the launcher warns you before you pick them. OpenRouter and Ollama Cloud are the way to go.
🎙️ Cloud Voice — Miu's voice + your mic, no GPU required
New in this update: run Miu's text-to-speech and your microphone (speech-to-text) through the cloud, so voice works on any machine — no CUDA GPU needed for the local IndexTTS/Whisper servers.
Miu's voice (TTS) — choose remote IndexTTS (the exact same engine and model — her voice is identical) or Fish Audio (a zero-shot clone). Preset-voice services are intentionally left out, because the whole point is that it's her voice.
Your mic (STT) — OpenAI, Groq (whisper-large-v3), or any OpenAI-compatible transcriber.
TTS and STT are independent and off by default — turn on either, both, or neither.
Safe by default
Because this uses your real money, we built it to be careful:
🔒 Your keys are stored encrypted in Windows' secure credential store — never written to the game folder, never sent to us, never shared.
💸 Spending guardrails — a per-reply length cap, an optional monthly budget, and a live spend estimate so there are no surprises.
✅ "Test connection" confirms your key and model work before you play.
🟢 Off by default — you opt in with a clear confirmation, and you can switch back to free local AI/voice any time.
How to turn it on
- Update the launcher to v26.7.1.
- Open AI Setup. It's split into two tabs:
- Local — the free, on-device brain (Ollama / LM Studio / Player2) and local voice.
- Cloud — Cloud AI providers and Cloud Voice.
- On the Cloud tab, pick a provider, paste your API key, choose a model, and hit Test connection, then Save. Set up Cloud Voice the same way if you want it.
- Press Play — Miu does the rest.
